ENCU1305 - Banshmark "UH" (0 credit hours)
Course Description: Successful completion of the UGRU English Program is conditional on obtaining an overall score of at least 4.5 on the IELTS exam. Students who score less than 4.5 may not repeat English 3, however. Students whose English CEPA score initially exempts them from taking the English courses may sit IELTS or the Institutional TOEFL and must score at least 5.0 overall on the IELTS or 500 on the Institutional TOEFL to exit UGRU English. This also applies to students who receive credit for ENGU 1303 through the Challenge exam.

ENGU1301 - English I (0 credit hours)
This mobile-learning enhanced elementary-level course reviews basic grammatical structures; expands familiarity with common high-frequency vocabulary; introduces basic reading, writing and listening skills; facilitates speaking in a classroom context; promotes learning how to learn; and encourages independent study. Prerequisite: CEPA 150-164

ENGU1302 - English II (0 credit hours)
This mobile-learning enhanced pre-intermediate course consolidates and expands on basic grammatical knowledge; focuses on high-frequency vocabulary; advances reading, writing and listening skills; promotes speaking in a classroom context; develops note-taking and study skills; encourages critical thinking; and stresses the importance of independent study. Prerequisite: ENGU 1301 or CEPA 165-174

ENGU1303 - English III (0 credit hours)
This mobile-learning enhanced intermediate-level course advances the understanding and use of English as well as preparing students for the IELTS exam. It consolidates and expands on knowledge of grammatical structures commonly found in academic texts; focuses on general, high-frequency academic vocabulary; fosters reading skills with reference to the challenges of academic texts; furthers the ability to take lecture notes and use them to complete a task; promotes writing skills through assignments requiring patterns of organization common in academic contexts; encourages speaking in an academic context; and reinforces the importance of study skills, critical thinking and independent study. Prerequisite: ENGU 1302 or CEPA >=175

ENGU1304 - ENGLISH BENCHMARK (0 credit hours)
Course Description: Successful completion of the UGRU English Program is conditional on obtaining an overall score of at least 5 on the IELTS exam. Students who score less than 5 may not repeat English 3, however. Students whose English CEPA score is higher than 180 are initially exempted from taking the English courses and may sit IELTS or the Institutional TOEFL and must score at least 5.0 overall on the IELTS or 500 on the Institutional TOEFL to exit UGRU English. This also applies to students who receive credit for ENGU 1303 through the Challenge exam.
